Is Browsec VPN safe?

Browsec VPN probes remote-configured URLs bypassing its own proxy and sends a persistent user ID to its telemetry host on each page load.

The extension pulls its configuration from a GitHub Gist with no integrity check, including a list of URLs to probe and the telemetry domain to report to. When the browcheck feature is enabled, the extension fetches each configured URL directly — bypassing its own VPN proxy — and sends the results (HTTP status, timing, errors) to its telemetry service. A persistent identifier assigned by browsec.com servers is included in every telemetry event sent on proxied page loads.
