Is Foxified safe?

Low risk

Foxified fetches and executes remote Firefox addon code on all pages without verifying the download's integrity.

The extension lets users run Firefox addons in Chrome by downloading addon packages from a URL supplied by foxified.org. When an update is available, it fetches the XPI from the stored update URL, extracts it with JSZip, and registers the addon's scripts as content scripts running in the MAIN world on every HTTP and HTTPS page — with no hash or signature check on the downloaded code. A compromised or malicious update URL would allow arbitrary code to run in the page context of every site the user visits.

Part of this rating comes from analysis signals we haven't published as detailed findings yet.

Shared hosts - 1 hostname

Hostnames hardcoded in this extension that few other listings call. That can mean one operator behind both, and it can equally mean a small shared vendor, so it is context rather than a conclusion. Hosts that many listings call are left out: they are services, not connections.

What it can do

Permissions this extension asks for, as declared in version 2.1.4. Asking for a permission is not a finding on its own - it is what the extension can do if it chooses to. The current listed version is 2.2.0, which we have not unpacked yet.

Where it sends data

Destinations our analysis observed Foxified contacting. Sending data somewhere is not a finding on its own - an extension that syncs your settings has to talk to its own server - but it is where your data can go, and who else it goes to.

  • foxified.org

Foxified sends data to foxified.org. No other extension we have analyzed sends data here.
