Is The Quick QR Code - Multi-scene decoding tool safe?

Low risk

Quick QR Code accepts QR-history entries from any page script with no origin check and can jump to attacker-set URLs.

The content script listens for window postMessage events without verifying who sent them, so any script running on a page the user visits can inject an arbitrary title and URL into the extension's saved QR-code history. Clicking that saved entry later opens the attacker-supplied URL. Separately, when the extension's local QR decoder fails on a screenshot or uploaded image, it falls back to uploading the full image as a base64 data URL to the vendor's own qrcd.org server for server-side decoding.

Part of this rating comes from analysis signals we haven't published as detailed findings yet.

Shared hosts - 1 hostname

Hostnames hardcoded in this extension that few other listings call. That can mean one operator behind both, and it can equally mean a small shared vendor, so it is context rather than a conclusion. Hosts that many listings call are left out: they are services, not connections.

Where it sends data

Destinations our analysis observed The Quick QR Code contacting. Sending data somewhere is not a finding on its own - an extension that syncs your settings has to talk to its own server - but it is where your data can go, and who else it goes to.

  • qrcd.org

The Quick QR Code sends data to qrcd.org. One other extension we have analysed sends data here.
