WhatsApp Chat Backup is high risk. Code analysis shows that opening the popup's forward-message feature makes the extension ask wadesk.io for a task tied to the stored account and WhatsApp identity. The returned task fields are then passed into WhatsApp Web so the server-selected message text is sent to the server-selected recipient from the logged-in WhatsApp Web session; dynamic analysis did not observe the live request because the test browser was not logged into both wadesk.io and WhatsApp Web. Our dynamic analysis (run 264) confirmed that this extension reads your WhatsApp phone number from the WhatsApp Web page and stores it locally. When you uninstall the extension, Chrome automatically sends your phone number to waexport.wadesk.io as a URL parameter in the uninstall feedback beacon — without asking for your consent. The phone number is also included in authenticated API calls to wadesk.io while the extension is installed. 1 further issue was flagged.
