Is Backup WhatsApp Chats safe?

Backup WhatsApp Chats sends a device fingerprint and license key to a third-party verification server on download.

When a user clicks the download button, the extension collects the extension's runtime ID and browser user agent, encodes them as a fingerprint, and POSTs that fingerprint along with the entered license key to a Vercel-hosted backend. This call is made to validate the user's purchase before allowing the WhatsApp chat backup to proceed. Beyond license verification, the extension operates only on web.whatsapp.com, where it reads chat data locally and saves it as a file on the user's device.
