Is Gearch safe?
Gearch replaces the new tab page with a search box that sends typed queries to its own search server by default.
The extension only overrides the new tab page; it has no background script, content scripts or permissions. The search box is labelled Bing by default but submits typed queries to search.gearch-tab.com instead, and only when the user submits a search. Google and Yahoo options submit to those sites directly.

Where it sends data
Destinations our analysis observed Gearch contacting. Sending data somewhere is not a finding on its own - an extension that syncs your settings has to talk to its own server - but it is where your data can go, and who else it goes to.
- search.gearch-tab.com
Gearch sends data to search.gearch-tab.com. No other extension we have analysed sends data here.
