Is Fortect Browsing Protection safe?
Fortect Browsing Protection sends your browser history, installed extensions, and Google account email to Fortect servers.
The extension retrieves the signed-in Google account email via chrome.identity and merges it into every telemetry event sent to app.fortect.com and ext.fortect.com. On each silent scan it reads up to 700 browser history entries and submits all visited URLs to ext.fortect.com/v1/cloud for malware classification, alongside a list of all installed extensions. These payloads are AES-CBC encrypted with a hardcoded key and IV embedded in the extension bundle, making them trivially decryptable by anyone who obtains the bundle.
