Is MSN New Tab safe?

MSN New Tab sends a daily telemetry ping over plain HTTP to g.ceipmsn.com with a persistent device identifier.

On install, update, and once every 24 hours, the extension transmits a request to g.ceipmsn.com containing a persistent MachineID (a GUID generated at install and stored in chrome.storage.local), the extension version, OS string, browser language, browser version, and extension ID. The request is made over plain HTTP rather than HTTPS, meaning the telemetry data is transmitted without transport-layer encryption.
